Mini-Split Blinking and Won't Run? What the Codes Mean
Why a blinking mini-split is talking to you, what to try before calling, and why inverter systems punish guesswork repairs.
The blink is a diagnostic code
When a ductless head blinks and refuses to run, it's reporting a specific fault — communication loss, sensor failure, refrigerant problem, or a protective shutdown. Count the pattern before you do anything else; it tells a trained technician what to bring before the truck leaves the shop.
The one reset worth trying
Kill power at the breaker for a full minute, then restore and retry. Inverter electronics occasionally latch a transient fault, and a single clean power cycle clears it. If the code returns, stop cycling it — repeated resets against a real fault can turn a sensor problem into a board problem.

Mini-splits are computers wrapped around a refrigerant circuit. Diagnosing them with conventional-AC assumptions is how boards get replaced for sensor faults and refrigerant gets added to systems that were never low.
