Boiler Installation & Replacement
Replacing a boiler is a design job, not a swap. We size to the connected radiation, decide between conventional and high-efficiency condensing based on your emitters, and pipe it so the new boiler actually delivers its rated efficiency.

When boiler replacement makes sense
Cast iron with a section leak
The one cast-iron failure that isn't worth repairing — it's the block itself.
A 30+ year veteran and rising gas bills
The old soldier still fires, but a modern condensing boiler can cut the gas bill dramatically on the right system.
You want heat AND domestic hot water in one unit
A combi boiler replaces both the boiler and the water heater in one wall-hung footprint.
Adding zones or radiant floors
Replacement is the moment to redesign controls and piping for the house you actually live in.
Oil-fired hydronics
A gas or high-efficiency conversion typically pays for itself on fuel cost alone.
Our work, not stock photos

What we handle
- Cast-iron boiler replacements in historic homes
- High-efficiency condensing boiler upgrades
- Combi boilers (heat + domestic hot water in one unit)
- Zoning additions and control upgrades
- Radiant floor heating tie-ins
- Fuel conversions (oil to gas)
How the visit works
Measure the radiation
Boilers are sized to the radiators and the heat loss, not the old nameplate. Oversizing kills efficiency; we do the math.
Design the swap
Written quote with boiler model, piping changes, venting plan, and controls — plus a straight recommendation on whether condensing efficiency is achievable with your radiators.
Install & commission
Near-boiler piping done right, combustion analyzed and set, outdoor reset configured, every zone verified.
The honest economics of boiler installation
Boiler replacement pricing depends on the boiler class (conventional cast iron vs. condensing), the near-boiler piping work — which is where hydronic installs are won or lost — venting changes, and controls. Condensing boilers demand primary/secondary or hydraulic-separation piping and a condensate path; skipping that engineering is how 95% boilers deliver 84% results.
The honest pre-quote question is whether your radiation can run condensing temperatures. Big old cast-iron radiators usually can — they were sized for coal and have surface area to spare, which makes historic homes ironically perfect for the newest boilers. Undersized baseboard often can't. We tell you which case you are before you spend, not after.
Combi units make sense where heat loads and hot-water demands fit their envelope — we size against your actual simultaneous demand rather than selling the convenience and apologizing for the shower later. Financing applies to boiler work the same as everything else we install.
Timing & season
Boiler swaps are best done between April and September — the system can be down for a day or two without the house feeling it, and design decisions get made without a space heater humming in the background. Emergency mid-winter replacements are possible; they're just nobody's best-price scenario.
From the technician's side
We pipe condensing boilers primary/secondary with outdoor reset enabled and actually commissioned — the control strategy that lets the boiler run 120°F water on a 40°F day instead of 180°F water all season. Outdoor reset is the single biggest real-world efficiency lever on a hydronic system, and we routinely find it disabled on other installers' work.
The regional classic: sizing the new boiler off the old boiler's nameplate, which was itself oversized off the one before it. Three generations of compounding oversize means short-cycling, wasted gas, and early failure. We size to a heat-loss calculation and the installed radiation — the number the house actually needs.
Boiler Installation — Common Questions
How long does a boiler last?
Cast-iron: 25-40 years isn't unusual. Condensing boilers trade lifespan (15-20 years) for meaningfully lower gas bills. We'll help you weigh it for your house.
Is a condensing boiler worth it?
Only if your system can run low return-water temperatures. Big old radiators often can; undersized baseboard can't. We tell you before you buy, not after.
Can one unit do heat and hot water?
Yes — a combi boiler handles both and frees up space. Great fit for small-to-mid homes; we'll confirm your hot water demand suits one.
